Cultural Center

Empowerment through culture and education

About Culture center

The Al Nour Wal Amal Cultural Center is run by a non-profit association founded in 1954 to serve blind girls and women. It provides free education, literacy programs, and vocational training to help them develop their skills and become independent, integrated members of society. The association operates a free boarding school and today supports about 300 blind girls and women in its programs.

Services and Programs

The center offers a range of training and support services. It has a computer lab equipped with standard and talking computers for blind users, where computer courses are offered. A vocational workshop produces items such as uniforms, blankets and other textiles, giving the girls practical skills and generating income for the association. In addition, the center provides Braille literacy courses and transcription services, English language classes, and audio recording facilities to convert printed materials into speech, enhancing accessibility for students.

Library Services

The center’s library contains a variety of accessible materials for blind and visually impaired readers. It houses standard printed books as well as Braille books, including educational, religious and literary works. There are also tactile-image books and audio resources: books recorded on cassette and other audio materials specially formatted for blind users.

Special Projects

The center is involved in special initiatives beyond its regular programs. For example, it is reported to be developing a Braille abbreviations guide and planning a monthly accessible magazine for blind readers. The center also provides transportation services for blind students and additional academic support (tutoring and resources) for those pursuing higher education.
